Use this space to ask questions of myself and each other that might help you be better prepared for the Biology EOC.

  1. I do not understand why the answer is what it is for questions 56 and 64.

    1. On #56, honestly, I think it is a poorly worded question. I would say that the reason it is J is because the second sentence says that he built and marketed the product, implying that the man skipped the "Improve" step, which is most closely related to J.

On # 64, is because enzymes are like keys that unlock doors. Even though they are involved they are not changed during the process. Even though the lock is affected, the key is not.

    2. So, does that mean that in any reaction that the enzyme would always go unaffected?

    3. Yeah Ashtan, enzymes don't change.

    4. Are enzymes indicators for anything?

    5. Not in the sense that you are referring to. But remember that enzymes are proteins.

    6. So what would they indicate for?

    7. Well, since enzymes increase the rate of reaction, you might be able to identify the presence of a substance using a particular enzyme. But remember, enzymes are a class of molecules, not a specific molecule. I did not want to say "no" because some enzymes might indicate for some substances, but I am not aware of specific ones.

    1. A dihybrid cross is like when a heterozygous tall yellow pea plant is crossed with a heterozygous tall yellow pea plant.

    2. i do not quite understand. so it is basically 2 of the same species and both heterozygous?

      Delete
    3. Both heterozygous for 2 traits. So you are looking at height and color. Remember when we did the TtYy x TtYy and we would get the 9:3:3:1 ratio.

    4. AHHHHHHH. ok i get it thank you :)

  5. Also in the packet it says absolutely nothing on Co - enzymes. Aren't they the small thing that attaches to an enzyme to make it help break the substrate or what is it. :9 that is the only thing that has me confused other than that

    1. Co-enzymes help and enzyme do its job. I doubt such an obscure concept would be on the test, but you never know.

  6. Okay, I am signing off. I must say, the turnout was quite dissappointing. For those of you who joined in the conversation... thank you. To everyone, good luck on the test tomorrow and don't forget to stop by the STEM conference room for some breakfast in the morning.
